LAND OF LIGHTS ( FETHIYE )

In the ancient times on the site of modern Fethiye used to stand the city of Telmessos which was called as "Land of Lights". The city was one of the most important of the Lycian region, being on the western border of Lycia. The west of the ancient city was the Carian region. It is believed that Telmossos was founded in the 5th century BC.It is now one of the most important tourism region of Turkey.

SIGHTSEEING

Oludeniz ( Blue Lagoon ),Belcegiz,Kidrak,Butterfly Valley,Faralya,Hisaronu & Ovacik,
Kayakoy,Gemiler Bay,Saklikent Canyon ( Gorge),Calis,Degirmenbasi,Uzumlu,Katranci,Gunluklu,
Oyuktepe Coves,Kalemiye,Turuncmuari,Twelve Island (The Blue Voyage),
Eren Mountain (Ski Centre) and Gocek.

One major attraction worth mentioning is Göcek, which is only 30 km from Fethiye. Although there are no beaches, it is a lovely village which is ideal for sailing and enjoying a meal at one of the fine local restaurants.On the way to Gocek you can stop to see Katranci and Gunluklu.

HISTORICAL SITES

In the near vicinity of Fethiye, there are plenty of places from Lycian times that are worth a visit and should not be missed wild landscapes and a range of historic sites. Most of these Lycian sites can be reached by dolmus organised excursions are also available at local travel agencies or you can just head out on your own by renting a car.

FETHIYE ENVIRONS

Marmaris,Dalyan,Kas,Kalkan,Datca,Antalya,Alanya,Pamukkale,Ephesus are the famous tourism centres which can be easily reached from Fethiye.

There are shared minibuses called 'Dolmus' running non-stop between Fethiye and the other places of interest in summer season and also in winter but more infrequent.

There are buses running from almost all of Turkey's major cities to Fethiye.
If you are flying in, you will land at Dalaman Airport. There are domestic and international flights in both summer and winter to Dalaman. The distance between Dalaman and Fethiye is 55 kilometres. There are regular buses that operate on this route.

RESTAURANTS & BARS

Fethiye, Hisaronu and Oludeniz have many differently priced restaurants that you can explore at a leisurely pace during evening walks..

BOAT TRIPS

There are regular boat connections to Rhodes several times a week from June to October. We would recommend the 12 island tour, which can be booked by anyone of the numerous local agencies or at the harbour itself and Oludeniz. .

WINDSURFING

Windsurfing is available on the beach of Calis.


WALKING & TREKKING
There is a beautiful walk leading from the abandoned Greek town of Kaya Köyü down to Ölü Deniz. You can reach Kaya Köyü by dolmus from Fethiye. The walk takes approx. 3 hours and includes many unforgettable panoramic views. If you bring your swimming gear along, then you could take a dip and have a rest at the beach of Ölü Deniz afterwards. It is easy to make your way back by dolmus.
There are also organised trekking and walking activities on the Lycian Way throughout the year.


DIVING
There are many diving schools in Fethiye, most of which are located at the marina and are therefore easy to find. Together with the ones near Kas, the diving areas around Fethiye are some of the best in Turkey.

PARAGLIDING
Fethiye, Oludeniz is one of the most important paragliding centres of the world. The well known facilities which are located at almost 1900 m above sea level at Baba Dagi, now a mecca for paragliders.

BEACHES
The most famous beach in Turkey Ölü Deniz,Kidrak,Butterfly Valley,Kabak Beach of Faralya, Calıs and the other beaches near Fethiye can be reached by dolmus and buses.
